Water turns Sand into Wet Sand and Seed into Wet Seed, but ordinary Filters do not contain it and unsealed corners can leak.
Water in Sandustry is both a factory input and a physical liquid that needs careful containment. Use it to make Wet Sand and Wet Seeds, then move it through dedicated fluid lines instead of expecting an ordinary Filter to stop it.
Where to get Water
The current official Water page lists four source types:
- surface lakes and underground deposits;
- Ice melted into Water;
- rain created when Steam reaches the sky;
- Lumlings.
For a repeatable supply, the official page describes a Cryoblaster route that creates Snow, converts it through the Steam cycle, and produces rain. Treat this as a sustainable-source concept rather than a guaranteed output rate: the collected current sources do not establish its exact throughput or limits.
What Water creates
When one Sand pixel touches one Water pixel, both are replaced by two Wet Sand pixels. This is the basic input reaction for a Shaker line.
When one Seed pixel touches one Water pixel, the Water is absorbed and the Seed becomes one Wet Seed. The Wet Seed can then be sent to a Planter Box to grow a Flower. See the Wet Seed guide for the separation problem this creates.
Moving Water with factory equipment
The publisher's logistics guide recommends a Pump as the fluid input, a Liquid Vent as the output, and Pipes between them. The guide says these structures operate without power and continue running while their flow conditions are met.
A single pipeline can carry more than one non-molten fluid, but a Liquid Vent cannot select which one leaves first. Separate fluid lines are safer when mixing would damage the next process.
What blocks Water
The current official page says Blocks, Conveyor Belts, Kinetic Presses, and Flux Emanators block Water. Ordinary Filters do not; Water passes through them even when a solid material is selected.
Advanced Filters can affect liquids, but the collected sources do not provide a complete current configuration for every separation layout. For the specific Wet Sand problem, see why an ordinary Filter leaks.
Prevent corner leaks and evaporation
Liquids can slip through a diagonal meeting point between two blocks. Add another solid block behind the corner instead of assuming two touching corners form a watertight seal.
Water settles into depressions and forms a flat surface. The current official page states that a loose droplet which fails to find a depression within 45 seconds disappears. Build a catch basin before opening a large supply line so stray pixels do not evaporate.
Current-version cautions
- Do not treat old Demo Steam or Napalm layouts as the only current water solution.
- Do not send molten fluids through the Pump/Pipe method documented for ordinary fluids.
- Recheck sustainable-source output after game updates.
- Test a small tank for corner leaks before connecting it to a production line.
