Build deliberately, keep materials separated, and use Sandustry's construction shortcuts before your first production lines become difficult to untangle.

The most useful Sandustry tips are to keep different materials separated, learn the copy and replace shortcuts early, and treat Gold production as the foundation of your research plan. Sandustry does not ask you to power basic conveyors, launchers, Filters, pumps, or pipes, so a clean layout matters more than an early power grid.

Learn the interface before expanding

The Objectives panel tells you what the game currently expects, while the yellow objective arrow on the minimap points toward the relevant location. Use these two signals together before excavating a large route or rebuilding a working line.

Sandustry provides ten hotbars with ten slots each. The official beginner guide says you can jump to another bar with Alt + Hotbar Number, or hold Alt while using the mouse wheel. Organizing tools, transport buildings, and production machines into separate bars makes later construction much faster.

Use the construction shortcuts

Press C while pointing at a structure to select that building type. Use Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V to copy and paste repeated systems. These shortcuts are particularly valuable for conveyor sections, launcher shafts, and production layouts that need to be repeated without rebuilding every piece manually.

The default replace modifier is Ctrl. It lets you adjust an existing factory without dismantling the whole line, and becomes especially useful when upgrading conveyors and launchers to faster versions.

Keep solid materials sorted

Conveyor Belts move solids horizontally. Launchers move them vertically or diagonally, with the higher end acting as the output. Neither building needs power, so you can use them freely while planning an early factory.

Basic Filters sort solid resources with one selected material. Allow lets the selected material fall through; Block lets everything except the selected material fall through. When separating a mixed pile, the official guide recommends dealing with denser materials first because they settle at the bottom and reach the Filter more reliably.

Avoid putting too many resources into one tall pile. Even when a Filter is configured correctly, lighter material near the top may not reach it consistently. A wider or staged sorting line is easier to diagnose than a single overloaded Filter.

Give fluids their own pipelines

For ordinary fluids, use a Pump as the input, Pipes as the route, and a Liquid Vent as the output. The system continues moving fluid while the input conditions are met and the output level remains below the vent.

A pipeline can carry more than one fluid type, but a Liquid Vent cannot choose which fluid leaves first. It prioritizes the closest liquid. Separate fluid lines are therefore safer whenever mixing would damage a production chain or consume a limited resource.

Build research around Gold

Gold unlocks Research. The official beginner guide identifies three core production structures that can refine resources toward Gold: the Shaker, Kinetic Press, and Planter Box. Each belongs to a different point in progression and produces useful by-products for later processing.

Early on, Wet Sand goes to a Shaker. Keep the Gold output clear and leave room for the Residue by-product. The Material Scanner upgrade for the Grabber can help explain how an unfamiliar resource is refined or used, reducing the need to guess at production recipes.

Upgrade the Grabber early

Fluxite purchases upgrades for inventory tools. The official beginner guide recommends Grabber capacity and capability as a strong early investment because moving larger amounts of material manually is helpful before every process has been automated.

That does not mean the Grabber should replace good logistics. Use it to fix jams, prototype a process, and move a limited batch. Once a route works, convert repeated manual movement into conveyors, launchers, pumps, or pipes.

Plan for reactions, not just transport

Heat changes solids toward liquids and liquids toward gases. Cold structures move materials in the reverse direction. Before routing a resource through a hot or cold area, check whether its state will change and whether the destination can handle the result.

If a material is difficult to lift, consider whether another state of matter is easier to move. The official guide specifically encourages players to think about conversion as part of logistics rather than treating every resource as a fixed solid.

Explore without abandoning the factory

Artifacts found around the planet grant Augments for tools or the player. Creatures captured with the Corraller may also become part of production; the official guide gives Lumlings as an example of a creature that can contribute a small, steady water supply when enough are gathered.

Expand in stages: stabilize one process, leave access for maintenance, and then explore for the next resource or unlock. A compact factory that you understand is more useful than a huge line whose mixed materials cannot be traced.
