A basic Filter can sort Wet Sand, but it does not block liquids. Water passes through it, so this building alone cannot create a dry separation.
A basic Sandustry Wet Sand Filter layout cannot let Wet Sand fall through while stopping Water. The official Filter data says Blocks Liquid: No, and the Water page confirms that Water passes through ordinary Filters. Selecting Wet Sand changes how the solid is sorted; it does not turn the Filter into a liquid barrier.
What the basic Filter actually controls
The Filter behaves like a Conveyor Belt for pixels that are not selected. It can be set to Allow one solid pixel type to fall through or Block one solid type while allowing other eligible solids through.
Wet Sand is a slushy, launchable material that can be sorted and sent to a Shaker. Water is a liquid. The basic Filter's solid selection and its liquid permeability are separate properties, which is why a visually correct Wet Sand setting still leaks Water.
Why Water keeps following the material
The official Water page lists ordinary Filters among the building blocks that Water can pass through. Water is stopped by structures such as Blocks and Conveyor Belts, but an ordinary Filter is intentionally permeable to liquid.
There is another complication: when Sand and Water touch, they are replaced by Wet Sand. If Sand changes into Wet Sand while passing through a Filter that is not configured for the new material, the new pixel can become stuck instead of falling or moving with the belt.
What is confirmed about Advanced Filters
The official Water page states that Advanced Filters can affect liquids such as Water. That makes an Advanced Filter the relevant building class for a future layout that needs to control both Wet Sand and Water.
However, the collected current sources do not provide a reliable, complete configuration sequence for the exact “Wet Sand through, Water blocked” setup. The Advanced Filter link on the Water page currently points to an unfinished wiki page, and the available videos did not demonstrate the complete current Early Access configuration.
For that reason, this guide does not invent button names, filter slots, or a step-by-step Advanced Filter recipe. The reliable answer today is that the ordinary Filter cannot solve the full separation by itself.
A safer way to plan the line
Keep the Water route physically separate from the solid sorting stage wherever possible. Use Blocks or Conveyor Belt surfaces as liquid boundaries, and send fluids through Pumps, Pipes, and Liquid Vents instead of allowing them to share the same drop path as Wet Sand.
Before committing a large factory section, test a small amount of Sand and Water. Watch where the Water pools, check corners for gaps, and make sure Wet Sand can reach the Shaker without creating a mixed pile over the Filter.
Liquids can slip through the corner where two blocks meet if the corner is not completely closed. A separation line that appears sealed from a distance may still leak at one diagonal contact point.
