Sandustry wet seed matches Water's density exactly, so it hangs suspended instead of sinking, and it is the only thing a Planter Box will grow.
A Wet Seed is a Seed that has met Water, and it is the only thing a Planter Box will grow. Its defining quirk is density: at 100 it exactly matches Water, so instead of sinking it hangs suspended in the water column. That makes it awkward to collect and route, and it is the main reason wet-seed production lines need more thought than the sand line. On a Planter Box it grows a Vine stem topped with a Flower head.
There is a full walkthrough for this material as well: read the Wet Seed guide.
How to get Wet Seed
Only one method produces Wet Seed: combine seed with water. Because nothing else feeds it, throughput here caps everything built on top of it.
| Method | From | Machine | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Combine Seed with Water | Seed | — | 1 Seed + 1 Water -> 1 Wet Seed. |
What Wet Seed is used for
Wet Seed branches into Flower and Vine, so the same input can serve more than one part of your factory depending on where you route it.
| Produces | Machine or process | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Flower | Planter Box | Grows into a Flower with a Vine stem. |
| Vine | Planter Box | Vines grow from Wet Seed on Planter Boxes and support the Flower. |
Conversions
The numbers below come straight from the wiki, so treat them as the design budget for any factory section built on Wet Seed.
| Input | Output | Process | Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Seed + 1 Water | 1 Wet Seed | Direct contact | 1:1 |
| Wet Seed | Flower (+ Vine stem) | Planter Box | Not published |
Wet Seed properties
Wet Seed has a density of 100, and density is what decides where a pixel ends up in a mixed pile — heavier material sinks, lighter material floats or drifts.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Density | 100 |
| Matter type | Slushy |
| Burnable | No |
| Wettable | No |
| Launchable | Yes |

Tips
- Wet Seeds have the same density as Water and stay suspended rather than sinking - plan collection around that.
- Wet Seeds are less dense than dry Seeds, so mixed batches separate naturally.
Version notes
Patch history matters here: 1 update changed how Wet Seed behaves, and community guides written before them can be misleading.
- Demo Hotfix 8 (2025-02-20): Flower growth algorithm changed; seedlings convert back into Wet Seeds.
FAQ
How do you make wet seeds in Sandustry?
Put a Seed in contact with Water. One Seed plus one Water gives one Wet Seed; unlike the sand reaction, the pixel count does not double.
What are wet seeds used for in Sandustry?
A Planter Box grows each Wet Seed into a Vine stem topped with a Flower head containing four Amethelis and one Gold.
Why do my wet seeds float in Sandustry?
Wet Seeds have a density of 100, exactly matching Water, so they neither sink nor rise. Collection lines have to be built around that suspended behaviour.
How do you collect wet seeds in Sandustry?
Because they hang at water level, a shallow channel or a surface skimmer works better than a floor collector. Dry Seeds mixed in will sink out on their own.
Do seedlings turn back into wet seeds in Sandustry?
Yes. Demo Hotfix 8 changed the flower growth algorithm so seedlings convert back into Wet Seeds, and Update #3 extended that to shot, dug and stuck seedlings.
