Sandustry wet sand is made by mixing Sand with Water. A Shaker turns each pixel into one Residue and, about a quarter of the time, one Gold pixel.
Wet Sand is what Sand becomes after meeting Water, and it is the only form the Shaker accepts. Dropped onto a Shaker it always yields one Residue, pushed out sideways in the direction the Shaker faces, and about a quarter of the time also a Gold pixel, which falls out of the bottom. That asymmetry is what makes Shaker output easy to sort: Gold goes down, Residue goes across.
How to get Wet Sand
There is a single route to Wet Sand — mix sand with water — so it is the step to size first when a line running on Wet Sand starves.
| Method | From | Machine | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mix Sand with Water | Sand | — | 1 Sand + 1 Water -> 2 Wet Sand. |
What Wet Sand is used for
Wet Sand is an input to Gold and Residue, which is why it usually pays to buffer it rather than consume it the moment it appears.
| Produces | Machine or process | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | Shaker | ~25% chance per Wet Sand pixel. |
| Residue | Shaker | Always 1 Residue per Wet Sand. |
Conversions
Ratios are documented for Wet Sand, so you can size the line arithmetically instead of by trial and error.
| Input | Output | Process | Ratio |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Sand + 1 Water | 2 Wet Sand | Direct contact | 1:1 -> 2 |
| 1 Wet Sand | 1 Residue + (25% chance) 1 Gold | Shaker | Approx. 4 Sand : 1 Gold |
- 1 Residue + (25% chance) 1 Gold: Gold drops through the Shaker's bottom; Residue is pushed up in the facing direction.
Wet Sand properties
Density 150 governs how Wet Sand behaves in a stack, so read the number below as a sorting instruction rather than trivia.
| Property | Value |

| Density | 150 |
| Matter type | Slushy |
| Burnable | No |

Tips
- Gold exits downward and Residue sideways, so the Shaker sorts its own output.
FAQ
How do you make wet sand in Sandustry?
Put Sand in contact with Water. One Sand plus one Water is consumed and replaced by two Wet Sand pixels, so wetting actually doubles your pixel count.
What is wet sand used for in Sandustry?
It is the only material a Shaker will process. Each Wet Sand pixel always yields one Residue, and about 25% of the time also a Gold pixel.
How much gold does wet sand give in Sandustry?
Roughly one Gold per four Wet Sand, since the Gold roll is about a 25% chance per pixel. Residue, by contrast, is guaranteed on every pixel.
How do you separate Shaker output in Sandustry?
You mostly do not have to. Gold drops through the Shaker's bottom while Residue is pushed out sideways in the direction the Shaker faces, so the machine sorts its own output.
Can wet sand be dried out in Sandustry?
There is no documented way to reverse Wet Sand back into Sand and Water. Treat wetting as a one-way step and size your water supply accordingly.
